1-2 Día de todos Santos (All Saints’ Day) and Día de los Muertos (All Souls’ Day)** This has to be one of México’s most important holidays --one where Pre-Columbian and modern Catholicism beliefs merged to become an important representation of how the Mexican culture evolved. Celebrations begin on the 1st of the month but the 2nd is the official national holiday.
1-3 Feria del Pan de Navidad (Christmas Bread Fair) --Chignahuapan, Puebla, well-known for its hot springs and mineral bath spas, is the setting for this famous fair where beautifully shaped loaves, including the pan de hilo, which is made into little animal forms to decorate the statues of the Virgin on Candlemas are available for tasting and purchase. Also on display and available for tasting or taking home are the meat stews for which the town is recognized for and a variety of handmade Christmas ornaments and pottery made from the red clay of the area.
5-15 Fiestas de Mar (Ocean Fair)+* –Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, is the setting for a sailing regatta and a Golf Tournament hosted by the State’s Governor and the perfect venue for displaying the local artesania and an outstanding gourmet dining contest where chefs from all of Mexico participate.
20 Aniversario de la Revolución Mexicana de 1910 (Revolution Day)**
22 Día de Santa Cecilia (St. Cecilia, Patron Saint of Musicians)+
20 to 12/28 Feria del Maiz (Corn Fair)+* --Celebrated in Gomez Farias, Tamaulipas. This month-long fair highlights the vast assortment of corn dishes common throughout México like soups, stews, pozoles, enchiladas and antojitos. Also important to the feria is the amount of people that visit this town during this period to witness the great variety of species of tropical birds that reach the northern limit of their range in the tropical vegetation formation of the area.
29 to 12/6 Feria de la Plata (National Silver Fair)+* –Taxco is the setting for the world-renowned national silver competitions where México’s best silversmiths and some of the world’s finest artisans participate. The fair also features regional food, concerts, dances and fireworks.
