5-15 Festival del Mariachi+* –Celebrated in its state of origin Guadalajara, Jalisco. What can be more traditional than the Mariachi group and its serenades? Its music is treasured throughout México, recognized, and enjoyed internationally.
14-16 Feria del Durazno (Peach Fair)+* --Sirutato, Sinaloa, recognizes the importance of this fruit to its economy and celebrates its abundance in this fair by demonstrating its delicious flavor and ease of use for preserves and baked goods. Verbenas (town dance) and regional dance performances are the highlights of this feria. Sirutato is located in the part of Sinaloa called Badiraguato, cahita-tarascan meaning "the place of rivers among mountains".
15-16 Día de la Independencia (México’s independence day)** Starting very early in the month, all of México celebrates its independence from Spanish Rule in 1810. The President reenacts the traditional “Grito de Dolores” or cry for independence, at midnight on the 15th of the month. Most notable celebrations take place in Mexico City, and Dolores Hidalgo. Food, music and drink are particularly important in the month-long celebration with Chiles en Nogada, pozole, tacos de carnitas, Tequila and Mariachi music making a particularly strong appearance all over México.
